About United Voices of Efland Cheeks and the Community Center

United Voices of Efland Cheeks (UVEC) is a grassroots community organization that began in 1994 . We proudly serve the Efland-Cheeks community by providing educational, recreational, and other program activities for adults and children. UVEC is a private 501(c) (3) non profit corporation under the general statues of North Carolina and the Internal Revenue Service Code.

UVEC operates the Efland Cheeks Community Center under an agreement with Orange County NC. Orange County owns the building and provides a grant to UVEC to cover the costs for staffing and equipment. The center is supplied with computers and internet, meeting rooms, exercise equipment, a small kitchen and restrooms, and features an adjacent playground and park. UVEC also has a 15 seat van to support program activities. |

UVEC hosts recreational, after school and tutoring, arts and crafts, exercise and educational programs at the center. We offer a summer enrichment program for children that combines educational support with fun activities. We also host community-wide events to enhance community connections and improve access to programs and services. Our programs and classes are grant funded and free to the public.

UVEC works closely with nearby neighborhoods, two community schools (Efland Cheeks Global Elementary (ECGE) and Gravelly Hill Middle School (GHMS)), and other community partners to plan and deliver services. We also work closely with Orange County to assure that county resources and services are accessible to Efland Cheeks residents. This is especially important since Efland-Cheeks is a rural community outside of town limits.

About Efland Cheeks

Efland-Cheeks is a diverse, working-class community in rural Orange County, due west of the Town of Hillsborough. The community roots are rural farms owned by several generations of experienced agriculturalist . The community is home to many families and embraces diversity and inclusion. UVEC is intentional in engaging and acknowledging each person and their value through community outreach projects and events.
